Summertime in the Keys is a beautiful thing! Though temperatures are definitely rising, humidity hasn’t maxed out quite yet and there’s still a light breeze to keep you comfortable. Fluffy clouds and clear water mean that prime boating season is upon us, and locals and visitors alike are chomping at the bit to get on and in the water!

Swim around Key West In things to do in Key West

Calling all competitive swimmers! The month of June includes two different opportunities to compete in 12.5-mile swims around the island of Key West. The two races, organized separately by the Key West Athletic Association and Florida Keys Community College, welcome hundreds of swimmers from across the country (and world!) to circumnavigate our southernmost island. Though each race starts from a different beach, they both include options for solo or relay teams and require support vessels for each swimmer.

Celebrate Key West Pride in things to do in Key West

Key West is proud of its motto “One Human Family” and throws an incredible Pride party each June to celebrate diversity and the LGBT community! The five-day Pride celebration is a non-stop party featuring off- and on-the-water events, including eco-tours, cocktail competitions, Ms., Miss and Mr. Pride pageants, and a street fair. Fest revelers should get their tickets early for Fury’s Tea on the Sea dance party and sunset sail with a premium open bar. The Festival culminates with a parade down Duval Street that’s punctuated by a 100-foot rainbow flag!

Embark on a sunset sail in things to do in Key West

The Key West sunset is postcard perfect when viewed from land, but it becomes a truly awe-inspiring experience when seen from the water aboard a sunset sail. Fury offers two awesome ways to savor the sunset! Sip on complimentary champagne, wine or beer while you watch the sun melt into the horizon aboard the Champagne Sunset Cruise. Or enjoy margaritas and munchies aboard our popular Commotion on the Ocean Sunset Cruise, a floating concert featuring live music from local singers and occasionally nationally recognized songwriters!

You’ll gain a greater appreciation for our small, but beautiful, island when you see it from one of the city’s tallest structures – the Key West Lighthouse. Built in 1848, the lighthouse functioned for well over a century before being decommissioned in 1969. Today it’s a museum, but the nominal admission fee and 88 steps are well worth it for the view! From the top you can see both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic oceans, and this time of year the island is ablaze with the orange-red blooms of Royal Poinciana trees.
